Live: Dead By April

Dead+by+April+deluxe+Cover

Bringing a bit of the Swedish music scene to Manchester NQ Live (Moho Live), since their last tour in 2011; Dead By April rock up with their new vocalist Christoffer “Stoffe” Andersson after Jimmie Strimell left the band. Everyone knows that it’s tough for a band to lose a member, but the show that these guys put on were almost as if they had been playing with Stoffe for years. Starting off the night were Beneath the Depths a relatively new band that is still getting out there and this was in fact the biggest show the band has played so far. ... Read More »

Review: Polar – ‘Inspire Create Destroy’

POLAR-INSPIRE-CREATE-DESTROY-EP

Hailing from Guildford, Polar made a name for themselves with their explosive debut EP ‘This Polar Noise’. Following this with relentless touring anywhere they could play, Polar made their intent obvious from the outset. Eventually following ‘This Polar Noise’ with a full length debut in 2012 entitled ‘Iron Lungs‘ which was a continuation of the brutal and raw sound that they were becoming to be known for. ‘Inspire Create  Destroy’ is a progression from this and a clear indication that the band are not ready to settle. The EP is as bold as the title suggests.  The band have moved ... Read More »

Review: The Front Bottoms – ‘Talon Of The Hawk’

The Front Bottoms - Talon Of The Hawk Album Cover

I’ll admit, I was pretty late in the game to hearing The Front Bottoms. I first listened to them a out 6 weeks ago. The reasoning was twofold; I’m a horribly biased person who decided they were probably just Pitchfork fodder. I was unwilling to listen to something with a name my mum wouldn’t approve of That second one is also the reason I’ve never listened to Crywank even though they’re surrounded by nothing but praise However when I did hear their self-titled debut, I was instantly a fan and there was no way I’d be passing up on the ... Feature: Slam Dunk 2013 – By The Bands

slam dunk festivlal 2013

The full line-up’s been announced, the dates are sold out and the infamous Slam Dunk weekend is drawing closer as we speak. Everybody’s got their own plan for they’re going to see and the comments sections are full of argumentative trolls flaming over different bands on various stages. So to mix things up a bit, I got in touch with the only people whose opinions actually matter and decided to ask the bands on this years line-up who they were looking forward to seeing. Here’s what they had to say; “I don’t often get to see the other bands play ... Read More »

Live: ‘Dance Gavin Dance’

Dance Gavin Dance

The Fighting Cocks in Kingston is definitely the most metal bar I’ve ever stepped inside. It sort of reminded me of a biker gang headquarters, but drinks were cheap and cider was aplenty, so it gets a thumbs up. The sound in the venue wasn’t wonderful, but with the live act room being so cramped, it wasn’t bad. Support for the night came from Closure in Moscow, Affiance, and Violet, but after getting lost somewhere in London I only managed to catch Closure in Moscow and the headliners, Dance Gavin Dance. Sporting garish blazers/waistcoats, Closure in Moscow were not only humorous, with multiple one-liners and irrelevant ... Read More »
